Can you share more about your journey into the modeling industry?

Getting into the modeling industry for me was one talent branching off into another. Growing up, my mother always had me enrolled in extracurricular activities and modeling was one of them. I always had a passion for dance and once I started modeling, another passion quickly grew. As I took a break from dance, I started to branch out and explore this passion by joining different modeling organizations and teams. I quickly figured out what I wanted to do with my life and started to establish my dreams and goals young. In 2023, I decided to take a leap of faith and began to share my talent for modeling with the world. Since then, God has been providing me many opportunities.

What inspired you to pursue a career as a runway and print model, and how did you get started?

My mother inspired me to pursue a career as a runway and print model. Growing up, I would always admire her print work from when she was younger. Around the age of 7, she recognized my potential and drive and placed me in acting workshops at John Robert’s Powers where I quickly expressed my interest in modeling. At the time, they told me that I was too young to join the modeling division, but as I got older, I began trying out different modeling organizations. She always encouraged me to take my modeling career seriously because she believed in my dream. Also, growing up, I always received compliments on my smile so that played a huge part as well!

With your diverse experience in runway shows, print modeling,
e-commerce, and more, how do you approach adapting to different aspects of the industry?

Adapting to different aspects of the industry is important to me because my background is very diverse. I like to keep up with various fashion trends through social media and I am constantly experimenting with my style. Fashion is a way that I express myself so staying on top of different trends, opportunities and styles is pertinent to me.

Are there specific challenges or highlights you've encountered in each modeling niche?

Specific challenges that I have encountered within the modeling industry is being in between sizes. Sometimes I’m too large for the straight-size shows and other times I’m too small for the plus-size shows. Although I have run into this issue a few times, I never let that discourage me in my journey. The highlight that I encounter during my career is being the plus-size representative as a model/brand ambassador for Bouquet the lifestyle brand.

As a trained dancer and aspiring actor, how do these skills contribute to your success as a model?

I use my skills in dancing and acting in my modeling career to achieve great success. As a trained dancer, when I was younger I was a paid background dancer for a local rapper and even served as a dance captain during my junior and senior year in high school. I also received the opportunity to dance halftime for the Washington, Wizards and pre-game for the Denver Nuggets. In acting I received a $10,000 scholarship to the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts with Barbizon Modeling and Acting School. The confidence I gained from these experiences enabled my transition into my modeling career granting me the drive and motivation to reach greater heights.

Are there specific ways in which your dance background influences your runway presence or acting aspirations shape your approach to modeling?

The poise within my walk comes from my dance training. As a dancer, I was trained to be confident and to show my personality. This was very impactful upon transitioning onto the runway. As an actor, you are always taught to embrace your character. So I embrace my alter ego on the runway. If you know me, I am actually pretty shy so the confidence I show on the runway just comes from the natural performer within me.

You mentioned being a personal stylist and makeup artist. How do these additional skills enhance your modeling career, and do you find that they provide you with a unique perspective or advantage in the industry?

Being a personal stylist and makeup artist does provide me with such a unique advantage in all aspects of my modeling career. My creativity, versatility, and personal style help me put a unique twist on any work that I do. I love experimenting with colors, prints, and patterns so I try to showcase that in my photoshoots. As far as being a makeup artist, that has helped me save a lot of money! Getting your makeup done can be expensive so being able to do it yourself is a significant perk. I constantly practice all types of styles and makeup applications that work and serve different looks. Additionally, from me showcasing my talents-- people have reached out to me to do their makeup. Although, I choose not to publicly offer my makeup services, being able to do makeup is a great promotion for my business and helps me gain supporters and potential clients.

Working with both established photographers and local businesses, how do you navigate and adapt to different working environments?

Working with established photographers and local businesses are two different playing fields. From my experience, I can successfully navigate both environments. Working with established photographers is more like a collaboration because we agree on what we are doing before the shoot. Very often, they allow me to take over and have creative direction, so it is always a super fun and engaging experience where we both are building off of each other's creativity.  Meanwhile, working with local businesses, I always ask for direction to ensure that I am giving the clients exactly what they want. Most of the time, you may not know what you are going to be showcasing so being able to adapt to something new with no time to prep is always a good challenge. Ensuring that I am adequately representing their brand and meeting their needs is my top priority.

Can you share any memorable experiences or lessons learned from collaborating with various professionals in the field?

One of the most memorable experiences was working with Lamont Warren Photography. We collaborated on the bear project and it took about three months to complete the vision. The hard work, dedication, time, and effort were an experience for the books. A lesson I learned early in the industry was to make sure you always have an agreement before doing a shoot with a photographer. I have had run-ins with photographers who did not want to send pictures after our shoot, so establishing a mutual agreement for what both parties will receive after the shoot helps.

Congratulations on being featured in "Black Cruze Magazine" and completing over 40 photoshoots in 2023. Can you tell us more about these achievements and how they have impacted your career or personal growth?

Doing these shoots has helped me immensely in my career and overall personal growth. Doing different types of shoots has enabled me to be more diverse and able to adapt to new forms of modeling quickly. Also, it has helped with my confidence and urge to continue to push myself. I always like to do creative shoots, so keeping myself on my toes allows room for personal growth.

Being a former student and current instructor at the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School, how has your educational background influenced your approach to teaching aspiring talents?

I was not always super confident, so when I was asked to be an instructor at Barbizon I didn’t think twice. I always admired my teacher Letricia Russel, who was featured on Real Housewives of Atlanta, because of her confidence. She helped me and inspired me to be a teacher at the school. My students love me because of the nurturing spirit I have. I truly want each of my students to be successful as my teacher wanted for us. I feel like it is a part of my calling to give back/teach. My heart is fulfilled each time I see a student working towards their potential. I always was a leader growing up, so it is honestly in my nature to teach. I love what I do, so why not show others how to start?

What aspects of your own experience do you emphasize when guiding students in the industry?

When I guide my students I always talk about how essential it is to be on time. My motto to them is “Being on time is late, being on time is early”. I stress being on time and prepared frequently. Time waits for no one, so why should someone in the industry wait on you? Also, confidence is key! Confidence takes you a long way. Not only from the way you look on the runway or how you photograph but also your personal style as well. Be bold, be you, and be different is another key element I emphasize. I am all for individuality and being unapologetically YOU in a positive way.

You mentioned creating custom garments that showcase your creativity and personal style. How does your passion for design complement your modeling career, and do you see yourself expanding into the fashion design industry in the future?

My passion for my design complements my modeling career because my designs are bold, confident, and fearless and a person who truly embodies those traits showcases my designs well. Someone willing to step out of the box is someone I want to target my garments towards. Believe it or not, but some people actually told me they did not like my bear designs and I was okay with that. Why? Because my confidence and style will always speak for themselves. In the future, I do have plans to possibly explore the fashion industry. I have a few projects I want to do, so I hope to have some released soon!

As a brand ambassador and having worked in television and theatre, how do you balance representing different brands while maintaining authenticity?

I balance representing different brands by studying each brand/client before going to represent that job. I do this so I can always find ways to incorporate my own flare so people still have something to distinguish me from others. I always try to put my personal twist on every project.

Are there specific criteria you consider when choosing collaborations or projects outside of the modeling realm?

Yes, I always think to myself-- how is this brand/project beneficial to me? I search for what the brand stands for to see if it aligns with my brand and values. Also, I always ensure that it is a reputable project/brand I’m working for, so I am not just putting my name on anything.

Looking forward, what are your aspirations for the future of your modeling career?

Looking forward, some of my aspirations for my modeling career include being known for my personal style and individuality. From not only my clothes but my walk as well. I consider my walk to be unique and something I want to be known for. Also, in the future, I want to do more out-of-state shows. I have not yet reached my goal, so getting my name out there to different cities would be amazing. Finally, I want to do more commercial work/beauty campaigns.

Are there specific milestones or projects you hope to achieve, and how do you plan to continue evolving within the dynamic world of the fashion and entertainment industry?

At this moment I do not have any specific milestones I hope to achieve. Every day I just trust God and ask Him to bring me any opportunities that are meant for me. I guess the only specific milestone that I have set is working with one of my favorite brands in the future, Telfar. I love everything Telfar Clemons stands for and having the opportunity to work with/for him would be a dream come true. I am going to keep evolving by networking and putting myself out there. I have been challenging myself to start introducing myself and actually telling people about me instead of being more reserved. I love to take classes so constantly learning will continue to give me that competitive edge and boost my drive/love for modeling
